After the whanau were told by their landlord, that the home they rent is going on the open market for sale. Dan and his partner decided they have had enough of renting and must figure out what there next move was for their blended whanau.
They decided to build a home on their whanau Papakainga land located at Pukehina.
With help from their close-knit whanau and friends, they were able to get enough funds and labour force to have the bulk of their new open plan 70 sqm home under way.
Getting it to lock up stage was a blessing; however, they now needed the essential bathroom ware and kitchen.
The call went out through the grapevine, and the message quickly made its way to the Mahi Pai Foundation team. Not only was the MPF team able to help with a nice kitchen bench, cabinets, drawers, and pantry. They were also able to supply the whanau with a range hood, cooktop and towel rail.
All of it donated by the Arvida Copper Crest Organisation. The relationship they have formed with the Doing Good Foundation and the Mahi Pai Foundation, means they will be able to support a lot of whanau throughout the BOP.
The kitchen was picked up from a storage unit in Te Puke recently, and with the help of MPF, had it shipped to the Pukehina home. The attached photo shows the kitchen unit placed in the home ready to be fixed into place and all pipework connected.
Dan and his whanau wish to thank Arvida Copper Crest, and the MPF for their generosity to those in need . When the opportunity arises, they are encouraged to "pay it forward" to others.
The whanau were so happy with their "new" kitchen, they stayed in the unfinished home the day they received it and woke to their 7-year-old daughter saying to them in the morning. I love our new home, but I really love our kitchen the most.
